I am passionate about teaching people how to productively navigate conflict and work together to address complex issues.
Since receiving my Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2015, I have taught thousands of students and professionals the skills of collaboration, negotiation, conflict resolution, facilitation, and leadership. I also have extensive experience facilitating collaborative problem solving and conflict resolution on a wide range of community, land use, water, and other public challenges.
In recognition of my achievements in the conflict resolution space, I received the 2025 Peacekeeper Award from the Utah Council on Conflict Resolution and the 2018 Rob Williams Award for Emerging Environment and Public Policy Leaders from the Association of Conflict Resolution Environment and Public Policy Section.
When I’m not teaching people how to navigate conflict and collaborate, I’m usually skiing, biking, or otherwise exploring beautiful outdoors places.
And in case you couldn’t tell, I really love aspen trees.
I am a “prac-ademic.”
In addition to my work as a conflict resolution and collaboration practitioner, I am an Associate Professor of Practice in the School of Social Sciences at Utah State University, where I direct the Environmental Dispute Resolution Program and teach the Collaboration Certificate Course and Federal Collaboration Certificate Course.
